The OCSO Sheriff’s Star Charity is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, established in 2014 by members of the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office. Our mission is to support local law enforcement officers and their families during times of need or hardship, giving back to those who tirelessly serve our community. In addition, we provide labor and financial assistance to activities, charities, and causes that benefit the broader community.
Our organization is funded entirely by community donations and contributions from individual employees of the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, with no funding from taxpayer dollars. Our Board of Directors, composed of OCSO employees who volunteer their time to support the Charity's mission, collaboratively determines how funds are allocated to best support those in need and advance our mission.
The five points of our logo represent the key focus areas of our organization:
• Law Enforcement Officers & Families
• Animals & Environment
• Children & Families
• Local & National Charities
• Food Banks
The OCSO Sheriff's Star Charity hosts a variety of events throughout the year to support our mission. We invite you to check out our upcoming events and get involved!
Join Sheriff Aden and the OCSO Sheriff’s Star Charity for an exciting day of marksmanship and camaraderie at the Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches Clay Shoot Fundraiser on Friday, April 25, 2025! All proceeds will support the Ranches’ mission, helping to provide young men and women with a sense of direction, ability, and hope for a better tomorrow.
Chick-fil-A of Destin recently hosted a "Chicken with a Cop" event and generously donated 10% of their day's sales to the OCSO Sheriff’s Star Charity! Charity members joined forces with the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office Community Resource Deputies, Beach/Marine Unit, K-9 Unit, and Special Response Team to connect with our amazing community. A heartfelt thank you to Chick-fil-A for their incredible support of local first responders and the OCSO Sheriff’s Star Charity!
Our primary mission is to support local law enforcement officers and their families during times of need or hardship. Since our founding in 2014, we have provided direct benevolent and financial assistance to numerous law enforcement families facing serious illnesses, injuries, casualties, and other unforeseen hardships.
We have been honored to raise funds for the families of three fallen Okaloosa County Sheriff's Deputies, helping to ease the financial burdens they faced while enduring unimaginable loss. These heroes are Deputy Sheriff Bill Myers, Deputy Sheriff Michael Neau, and Corporal Ray Hamilton.
In 2015, Deputy Myers was tragically shot and killed while serving a domestic violence injunction in Shalimar, Florida. In 2021, Deputy Neau passed away unexpectedly due to complications from an illness contracted while working in his position at the OCSO Booking Facility. On Christmas Eve 2022, Corporal Hamilton was shot and killed while securing the perimeter of a barricaded domestic violence suspect’s home near Fort Walton Beach, Florida.
When you support the OCSO Sheriff's Star Charity, you’re also contributing to other worthwhile causes within our community. We take pride in supporting organizations with meaningful missions that directly benefit the Okaloosa County area. Each year, we host an Annual Giving Meeting, where local organizations present their initiatives to our Board of Directors and receive financial contributions to further their impactful work.
A few of the charitable organizations we have proudly supported include:
You'll find our members actively involved in providing labor assistance and support for various community projects and events throughout the year. Beyond our hands-on efforts, we also consistently offer financial support for charitable events and causes that positively impact our community.
One of our cherished traditions is supporting the Hospice Tree program. Each year, we purchase miniature Christmas trees that are beautifully decorated and delivered to patients of Emerald Coast Hospice, bringing holiday cheer and lifting their spirits during the season.
We also partner with the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office School Resource Officers for the annual Angel Tree program. Through this initiative, SROs work with school’s guidance counselors to identify students whose families are experiencing financial hardships. The program ensures each child is sponsored, allowing them to receive gifts and enjoy a brighter, more joyful holiday season.
The Charity holds a variety of fundraising events throughout the year to help support our mission, including the Annual 2-Gun Match hosted by ALTUS Shooting Solutions in Baker, Florida. This competitive shooting event emphasizes precision marksmanship and timed stages, drawing participants from across the Florida Panhandle and beyond.
In 2024, we introduced our First Annual Winter Pickleball Blast fundraiser. Held in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, this exciting weekend of pickleball fun became a tremendous success, attracting players of all skill levels and building community spirit.
One of our most popular fundraisers is the 30 Days of Christmas Gun Giveaway. Beginning every fall, Charity members offer tickets for a suggested $30 donation. Each day in December, we draw a ticket and award a different gun, with 30 guns given away over 30 days.
