The OCSO Sheriff’s Star Charity is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2014 by members of the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office. We are dedicated to assisting members of local law enforcement with unplanned life changing events as a means of giving back to those that work so hard serving our great community. We also provide labor and financial support and assistance to other charities and worthwhile causes in the community.
The Star Charity is supported entirely by donations. Our Board of Directors, which is comprised of Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office members who volunteer their time to accomplish the Charity's mission, is responsible for collectively determining how these funds are utilized to best support those in need.
The five points on our logo represent the primary focus points of our organization:
Law Enforcement
Animals/Environment
Children & Families
Local & National Charities
Food Banks
Each year, the Star Charity helps purchase miniature Christmas trees that are given out to be decorated as part of the “Hospice Tree” program. Once complete, the decorated trees are given to Hospice patients throughout our community.
We also partner with the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office School Resource Officers for the annual "Angel Tree" program where SROs identify students in their schools whose families may be facing financial hardship. The program ensures each child is sponsored to provide gifts and have a brighter Holiday.
One of our most popular events is the annual OCSO Sheriff's Star Charity Outlaw 2 Gun Match. This annual event attracts shooters from across the Florida Panhandle to compete in a shooting match consisting of multiple stages. The event is open to all competitors, with different categories for everyone.
We also host an annual "30 Days of Christmas" Gun Giveaway where we accept donations and give away 30 guns over 30 days. This event is open to the public.
Part of the Star Charity's mission is to support other local charities. We host an Annual Giving Meeting every year where local charitable organizations give presentations about their cause to our Board of Directors and receive financial contributions. Some of the organizations we support include:
The primary mission of the Star Charity is to help support local law enforcement officers and their families during times of need or hardship as a means of giving back to those that work so hard serving our great community. The Star Charity has helped provide financial support to law enforcement families during house fires or casualties, unexpected medical events, losses of life, and other unplanned events.
Following the tragic line-of-duty death of Corporal Ray Hamilton in December 2022, the Star Charity immediately went into action to raise money for the Hamilton family to help relieve the financial burden they endured as they focused on coping and healing from this tragic loss.
On Christmas Eve, December 24, 2022, Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office Corporal Ray Hamilton made the ultimate sacrifice while attempting to take a domestic violence suspect into custody in Fort Walton Beach.
